citizenM Favorites
Spotify is the ideal way of sharing your favorite music with friends, and enables you to listen to it everywhere: on your iPhone, iPad, or laptop. You can create offline playlists so you have access to your favorite songs on the go.
citizenM loves sharing great stuff, so we created a citizenM playlist. With a little help of Twitter, we’ve asked three of our followers to create a list of music they would like to hear when browsing through citizenM.

Menno van Bohemen – Vlaardingen
The Netherlands - @mtvanbI love Spotify! No more stress about downloading songs in bad quality! Since I have Spotify Premium, I can listen to all the music in perfect quality. The great thing about Spotify Premium is the ability to listen to your favorite tracks on your iPhone or iPad. Even without an internet connection, you can listen to the tracks that are available offline.
The playlist ‘On The Road‘ is the perfect playlist for long car trips to holiday destinations. Because of the ability to enjoy my favorite tracks offline, I don’t even worry about the high costs of international data roaming! -
Bob Johansen – Omaha, Nebraska
USA - @SweetBobbyJI use Spotify to find out what other people are listening to. My musical tastes are very diverse and I am openminded as to what “good” music might be. I am always exploring new and interesting music. I have created and shared several eclectic playlists with some friends that are into music like I am. I am always aghast at how ignorant most people are about the kind and amount of music that is out there. My influences are beat and orchestration. Anything with a good beat moves me deep in my soul. The playlist I put together for citizenMag varies from old-fashioned guitar sounds to modern house music. What they all have in common is beat. It is the kind of thing that I imagine would be playing when I walk into a trendy, hip hotel like citizenM.

Misha de Bok – Den Bosch
The Netherlands - @dedicatedtoSQSince I got in touch with music in the vinyl age, I’ve been addicted to all sorts of music from classic to metal, from electronic bleeps to massive beats. As a creative director/entrepreneur in the event industry, I like to stay on top of my game by listening to a lot of music. At SQuare we are dedicated to serious enjoyment, so music is our religion. I use Spotify as a bridge between my home and office, and as a home away from home when traveling. By traveling a lot you get in touch with different countries and people who inspire you with new music.
I love the fact that (almost) all music is accessible wherever you are, with whomever you are, only a click away. The internet allows people to share more things than we could ever imagine, so why should we keep good things to ourselves? Spotify is an easy to use application which allows me to set the mood with different playlists created by yours truly, friends, or by total strangers. I use Spotify on my laptop, iPad and iPhone to stream music at home, in the office, in my car, or even on the toilet and in the shower.I got inspired to have music all around me at home after my first stay at citizenM.

TO READ – Graffiti as a real-life art social network

Danny McDermott is a graffiti writer in Glasgow who found his passion through street culture. “I was into skating and shortly after I fell into graff in a big way.” Graffiti culture is strong in Scotland, with multiple artists working in the field, but it remains an illegal and dangerous activity. “Some appreciate graffiti and work with graffiti artists on projects, usually regenerating run-down areas”. “I wish graffiti was more supported by the local councils and offered artists legal spots so people could express themselves in a safe environment instead of under bridges or down tunnels out of sight, like it doesn’t exist. That we could speak up instead of hiding all the time. Let us show our socialness, our creativity.”
The book No Risk No Reward: A History of Scottish Graffiti, will be released by Cargo Publishing in Winter 2011, and there will be a live graffiti jam during Social Media Week in Glasgow!

TO WEAR – Travelteq

There are two types of travelers. One is the traveler open to meeting people, not shy to start a conversation and ever curious. The other is the traveler who fences himself from the crowd with his iPod, iPad or notebook. They can go through their journey without having had any contact with anyone except for at customs. The iPad is the latest addition to these means for seclusion. People from different industries and backgrounds make use of this inventive machine, and the most beautiful accessories and cases have been created for this device. Last time I was waiting for the plane, I was listening to some music on my iPad. My intention was seclusion, not to be social. I got quite annoyed when a gentleman tried to draw my attention for a conversation. He kept pointing at my iPad. He asked me, “Is your iPad case the one made by Travelteq?” I laughed, and proudly said yes. He saw it on a blog and mentioned that he was impressed to see it in real life! We then embarked on an amazing conversation during the flight. He turned out to be someone who owned a bicycle brand in Milan. Now we are possibly going to do collaborate with his company… Thank god for the persistent type 1. And of course the handsome new iPad 2 sleeve.

Jamie XX – ‘Far Nearer’ (Numbers)

Popular Glasgow music collective, Numbers, bring us this post-dubstep/house track from Jamie XX with a big, summery sound and an undeniable reggae feel. The seven-minute long tune constantly progresses throughout, with the producer’s brilliantly crafted use of steel drums, big bass lines and endless buildups and drops, creating a relaxed and enjoyable, but eminently danceable end result. The single’s cover art of warm pinks and oranges match the vibe of this beautifully infectious song perfectly.
Crystal Fighters – ‘Plage’ [Auntie Flow Remix]

The extremely talented, Huntleys & Palmers Audio Club-signed, Glasgow-based electronic producer and DJ, Auntie Flo produces this addictive, upbeat samba/house remix of the Crystal Fighter’s track, Plage. The song features a delicately woven series of buildups with constant and extremely effective developments throughout. Its use of hard and energetic drums along with carefully placed guitar strings and soft vocal melodies work together to create a brilliantly danceable yet wonderfully laidback sound.

Found – ‘Anti-Climb Paint’ [S-Type Remix] (Chemikal Underground)

The hip-hop/electronic genius of S-Type (LuckyMe) meets with the highly listenable experimental pop band, Found (Chemical Underground), to create this remix of the single ‘Anti-Climb Paint’ – an all-round brilliant track. S-Type’s use of strong adventurous synth lines, incredibly intricate drum patterns, clever breakdowns and well-worked change-ups throughout, combine to carry this huge track through its various different stages of progression. This, combined with the soft melodic and folky vocals of Found’s Ziggy Campbell, turns an originally reflective, ambient and thoughtful track, into a hard-hitting club tune with enormous playability.
