  • Shlohmo

    Places

This 20 year old producer from Los Angeles is an incredible talent. He hasn’t released much yet, but the ten songs available are all top productions. Keep an eye on this kid.

  • When Saints Go Machine

    Fail Forever (Nicolas Jaar Remix)

The latest greatest Danish electronic export act, When Saints Go Machine, sees Fail Forever remixed by Nicolas Jaar. He’s born in New York but grew up in Chile, and convinced the world with his debut album Space Is Only Noise. Nicolas is as young as Shlohmo is, we’ll be enjoying these talents for the next decades.

  • Jamie Woon

    Gravity

This British singer, songwriter and producer tells a great story and has an even better voice. His father is Malaysian Chinese; his mother is the famous Scottish Celtic folk singer Mae McKenna. His debut Mirrorwriting was released in April and is filled with beautiful electronic beats and the singing voice of one of the biggest British promises.

  • I Am Oak

I suggest you check out I Am Oak for more beautiful music. This band, formed by singer-songwriter Thijs Kuijken from Utrecht (The Netherlands) mixes folk with percussion, vocals with mumbling and strings with organs. Oasem is the brand new album you should definitely check out if you’re looking for pure perfection. If you have taste, of course.

  • Vincent Reinders:

Few things are as personal as your own musical taste. Your best friends can have the worst taste, you love your parents but their musical preference can be terrible. Complete strangers, at a concert for example, can feel like family because their music taste is exactly the same. Over here at 22tracks, all we do is rely on the taste of experts. You can’t train taste, but you can train a good ear. If you can hear the quality of certain tracks, as a DJ, you’ll feel the need to play them. That’s how we curate our playlists. They may not be your taste, but you probably will not hate the tracks, because the quality is still there. Experts such as DJs and journalists can influence people’s musical taste. But they will never ever be able to make someone love a song he used to hate. You can do this yourself, especially as you get older. Your taste changes with the years, you get smarter, create more listening experience and will probably grow more confident in speaking openly about the music you truly love. More and more music services offer playlists created by computerized algorithms. We still believe in the personal touch and taste of experts who live for a certain kind of music, and we will continue to believe in it.

I curate the Relax playlist. My most important criteria is that these songs must be so beautiful that they make you feel intensely happy. Every tone or melody or voice or drum has to be wonderful. This way, the Relax playlist creates an almost meditative vibe of rest and happiness in my body, and in my opinion this is the most incredible function music can have.

That’s why I advise you to listen to three songs by beautiful new artists on 22tracks.com

Savage beauty

Alexander McQueen was a controversial designer. Whether you like his creations or not, is a matter of taste. McQueen certainly was the most influential designer of the decade. Last year he committed suicide. The book Savage Beauty just came out and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York is exhibiting all his work. This shows that despite his death, the popularity of McQueen has only increased. How tasteful it is, is completely up to you.

Interior Architecture: From brief to build

Sometimes you run into a project – like citizenM – that makes you wonder: how did they come up with it? The answer to this question can be found in Interior Architecture: From brief to build. 30 international projects, described from rough ideas and sketches up to the final construction of a building.

Miniscule Blue Helmets on a Massive Quest

Little men with blue helmets spread out all over the world. They are an initiative of Dutch graphic designer Pierre Derks. These play toys are taking over the world with a mission: To shoot the blue helmet plat toys and upload the image. The results can be found in the book and on the website.

Design Taste

Gastronomy finally admits taste is not only felt on the tongue. Visuals are a big part of the food experience. Design Taste shows 71 cafes, bars and restaurants that understand the art of gastronomy, and where interior and graphic design are a big part of the experience. You’ll nearly forget you’re there to grab a bite or have a drink!

Toscanini venticinque

MENDO doesn’t sell cookbooks. Not because we don’t like them, but because they do not fit within our selection. We’ve made one exception. Toscanini, the Italian restaurant on Lindengracht in Amsterdam, is a concept. Their products are photographed so realistically, it’s almost surreal to see their freshness. We appreciate that.

Roberto Cavalli

Glamour and glitter. Dramatic photography. Big prints. Golden accessories. You either hate it or love it, but Cavalli has been using it all in a high quality way. For forty years now. And the book that’s published about it, is Cavalli worthy. Big. Shiny. Colorful.

Nectar & Pulse

Going on a city trip with friends, or want to discover your location in your spare time during a business trip? Different purposes make for different requirements of what places you should visit. Nectar & Pulse jumped into that void and developed the ultimate personal travel guide: you choose your destination and the local soul mate that fits your wishes best. Your local soul mate guides you to all the things you don’t want to miss during your stay.

MENDO:

MENDO is a spectacular bookstore. They sell books on photography, fashion, architecture, interior and graphic design. The store was designed by Concrete Architectural Associates – yep, there’s a link with CitizenM here! The walls are not made of bricks, but of thousands of black MENDO books. With a well-balanced selection of creative books and an exclusive interior, MENDO is definitely one of the most inspiring stores in The Netherlands. For this reason, there is no online store. Taking the time to explore the shelves and browse through the books are an essential part of the book buying experience.
