citizenM says:always take something back from your travels, even if it’s just a story
Welcome to the world of citizenM. A new concept in hotels. A place where budget and luxury aren’t just good friends, they share one big bed. citizenM introduces citizenMag, our quarterly online magazine. A great way to communicate with our fellow citizens. It’s our personal notebook from the citizenM world and beyond. After all, traveling always involves story telling.

Feel connected to inspire
Basically, citizenM is interested in expanding the concept of a ‘hotel’. We’d like to think of our hotel and magazine as a connected road story. Just like our rooms and citizens around the world represent several story-lines. (From one room to the other in no more than six steps). We feel connected. And would like to inspire the creative minds of whom we feel connected to.
Editors
Our editors are the worldly citizens who contribute. Whether writing in hammocks, sitting on design chairs or lying down on grass. They are observers and recognize significant moments in the life of a city. How it looks by candlelight, how it looks in the daytime.
Join us
Chances are you want to join the conversation. We’re working on that. Creating a platform where you can add your global view. Meet fellow citizens, interact and speak up. Even if you’re living in the outskirts of some obscure city with language signs we don’t understand, we hear you. Because online, we’re all neighbours. Fellow citizens, welcome to our world online.
Note to self
Before going to sleep, while traveling, during a coffee break,we write down what’s on our mind. citizenM believes that writing is the best way to understand yourself. Our online magazine was born out of a desire to share inspiration, thus we try not to bore our citizens with needless stuff. The world is already packed with that.
How to read citizenMag
The best time to read this is while travelling (on a bus, a train, a plane or a camel), so we designed a very flexible template that fits on all your mobile, digital devices. Just resize your browserscreen to re-align the desirable magazine lay-out. Please, take a grand tour and surf, slide and stroll through our content and bloglike mini-chapters. And change your mood to business, cultural, exploring and shopping.
citizenM says:we’d like to attract new residents, so please forward this. Much appreciated. Please return regularly to our online magazine HQ.

MENDO
MENDO is a spectacular bookstore. They sell books on photography, fashion, architecture, interior and graphic design. The store was designed by Concrete Architectural Associates – yep, there’s a link with CitizenM here! The walls are not made of bricks, but of thousands of black MENDO books. With a well-balanced selection of creative books and an exclusive interior, MENDO is definitely one of the most inspiring stores in The Netherlands. For this reason, there is no online store. Taking the time to explore the shelves and browse through the books are an essential part of the book buying experience.

Ellen Bokkinga
She’s our curator of citizenMag. Ellen Bokkinga is a creative strategist, working on positioning brands and marketing & design assignments. She develops concepts, ideas and stories and particularly tries to grasp the idea from the start. Her big wish is to start a new form of education called The New Verbalizers where ‘verbalizers’ are learning to apply language as ‘problem solver’. It’s a solution driven eduction with a bigger picture view on entrepreneurship.
